Proxy Configuration for Mobile Devices

How to set up a proxy on iOS and Android devices for mobile browsing and app traffic.

Proxy Configuration for Mobile Devices

You can configure proxies on iOS and Android devices to route your mobile traffic through a proxy server.

iOS (iPhone / iPad)

Wi-Fi Proxy

  1. Open SettingsWi-Fi.
  2. Tap the icon next to your connected network.
  3. Scroll down to HTTP Proxy and tap Configure Proxy.
  4. Select Manual.
  5. Enter your proxy details:
    • Server: Your proxy host (e.g., fr.hypeproxy.io)
    • Port: Your assigned port number
    • Authentication: Toggle on and enter your username and password if required.
  6. Tap Save.

Using a Proxy App

For SOCKS5 proxies or more advanced configurations, use a third-party app like Shadowrocket or Potatso:

  1. Download the app from the App Store.
  2. Add a new proxy configuration with your host, port, and credentials.
  3. Enable the proxy connection from within the app.

Android

Wi-Fi Proxy

  1. Open SettingsWi-Fi (or Network & InternetWi-Fi).
  2. Long-press your connected network → Modify network (or tap the gear icon).
  3. Expand Advanced options.
  4. Under Proxy, select Manual.
  5. Enter your proxy details:
    • Proxy hostname: Your proxy host
    • Proxy port: Your port number
    • Bypass proxy for: Leave empty or add local addresses
  6. Tap Save.

For authentication, Android will prompt for credentials when you first browse.

Using a Proxy App

For SOCKS5 support or system-wide proxying (including app traffic), use an app like Drony or ProxyDroid (requires root):

  1. Install the app from the Play Store.
  2. Configure your proxy host, port, and authentication.
  3. Enable the proxy — the app creates a local VPN to route traffic through your proxy.

Important Notes

  • Wi-Fi only: The built-in proxy settings on both iOS and Android only apply to Wi-Fi connections, not cellular data.
  • App traffic: Some apps may bypass the system proxy settings. Use a proxy app (VPN-based) for complete coverage.
  • SOCKS5: Native settings only support HTTP/HTTPS proxies. Use a third-party app for SOCKS5 support.

Verifying the Proxy

After configuring, open your mobile browser and visit an IP checking service to confirm your traffic is routed through the proxy.
